Notes written as I listened to interview with Ihab Badawi as part of the Essence of Mastery Summit.

Wholeness is not just the  client and also the coaches. We are only good if we are self aware.

Wholeness: Being connected to the soul of the client – life or business coaching – They are bigger than the story or objective. Client comes as a complete ecosystem.

We fall into the paradox of showing / upholding process or letting go and trusting the process – being what is best for the client.

Be open, be vulnerable, deal with what is present, without pressure – it is about the journey – how we explore together.

Being at ease with opening up self and pressure to be the best – This holds you back to being open to mistakes or dealing with things in the moment. We can because of this fall into blind spots.

Namaste – I see you (as a client / whole human being )

The way you show up is a step of support, so we shouldn’t worry about anything else.

Listen to being said and what is not being said – Being able to shift comfortably  from  reflection & observation.

Offer observations without leading.

Mastery can get messy -> limiting beliefs / no judgement / deep exploration.

Amplify your curiosity without attachment.

Consider asking permission -> 1) amplifies and shows respect 20 Allows client to focus that there will be something new.

Share it with not being hung up on it: 1) Tone we share reflects our being (as a judgement or as accepting and an invitation to explore) 2) Allow the client not to wander around, so invite “how does it land. connect or play with you”

[MCC -> Use recordings with clients you have time with]

New clients….
> Set clarity on what is coaching
> Agenda setting (stakeholders engaged) by understanding what they need
> Show that you are part of the generative learning (co-creation) and we have no preset agendas

We are not coaching situations, we are coaching people

Discipline of holding space:

1) Accepting that serving the client is not about the destination
2) being attuned 100% to client and moment -> Enjoying the unsaid > Intuition (trust)
3) Top of mind – We sr sin service of client – keep radar open for what is happening > get out of your clients way > egoless > evoke awareness BY offering what we see without attachment.

DON’T ATTACH MEANING

Don’t let your logical brain takeover – Intuition is crucial

Corp Sponsor alignment WHOLENESS

> Discuss scope / objectives of ORG but leeway and latitude (confidentiality). We create boundaries.

LISTENING > tone, posture, silence, breathing – 360 degree listening

Partnership & Depth > Crucial to all facets of coaching

Let go / Surrender and accept what is, as this raises and amplifies our curiosity. Be open to what comes up.

Our education system teaches us to have an answer and this is the antithesis of coaching

No preconception of topic / solution > Be in the moment and not attached.

In a large seminar there will be an expert! Invite others to co-learn

GETTING ready for a session

  • Annie – Coaching prep call form > aids clarity to them (48 hrs ahead) > Coaching begins before session
  • Annie – As coach get present – Stop > Breathing, noticing, surrendering notions of “having to” to get out of their way.
  • Ihab – Nothing sent > Raise own self awareness first…connect with self (which space am I in, what is impacting / serving / not serving)
  • Between sessions time and space to reflect on past session THEN reground and get neutral for next session

Three keys

1) Attentive presence – allow self to listen within (witnessing) before speaking

2) Receptive presence – Be willing & surrender to what is happening without judgement

3) Compassionate presence – dive in before venturing out (empathetic and connectedness)

Learning points

  • Wholeness starts right in the creating the coaching agreement >> Generative co-creation
  • Don’t attach meaning – Just offer in order to evoke awareness
  • Aim to listen 360 degrees
  • Surrender and accept what is, as this raises and amplifies our curiosity. Be open to what comes up
  • Prep routine > Get to neutral in a way that works for you.
