Notes written as I listened to interview with Judith Duhl as part of the Essence of Mastery Summit.

Four stages of competence are a good role model of how we become masterful:

4StagesofCompetence

Coach as much as possible

UC – Is a state of presence – We are always stepping into the space of mastery if we let ourselves be present and here.

Good stories are usually personal!

Mastery is a journey – space to fail phenomenally.

FAIL > PRACTICE > LEARN & Willingness to fall short

Fall over >> Good for you! – Be positive about failure. Permission to be human and vulnerable. Jazz as an example.

Coaching is a creative act – we step into the unknown and we take a risk as it is always new. We step into new experiences.

You can’t be on autopilot

BE aware of own language / feelings – we can feel inferior BUT ask ourselves if our orientation impacting?

Imposter syndrome / Not enough is common!

^^ Notice and bring it out – lack of transparency can be an issue – I am picking up XYZ….

Coaching helps system find itself and its space.

As coaches we look for patterns.

Shift away from perfectionism – let go and be transparent

Observe and witness perfectionism allows us to separate from it.

Being present with you is the essence of mastery

We explore curiously what is showing up, we don’t fix things

Being with….without judging

Have gratitude for what is showing up

We are always in a system that is struggling and in crisis.

A short prayer for the planet as a way of starting a session )if appropriate) – Invites an intention.

How not to become enmeshed: Name it and recognise its presence

Key takeaways:

1> Be OK without knowing the answer

2> Share what is showing up with no judgement.

3> Be OK with failing

4> Raise competence in naming what is happening
